How to Send Email in Outlook
Double click on gold Outlook icon on Desktop
Click on Create Mail in upper left.
Type the email address of the person you’re sending the email to next to in the white, rectangular box to the Right of where you see the “To.” You should see a blinking black vertical line in the white box. This is called the Cursor. Any text you now type will appear wherever the cursor is.
Tips for typing email addresses:
- Do not use any spaces in the email address.
- It does not matter whether you use upper or lowercase letters. Most people stick to lowercase letters.
- Every email address contains an “@” symbol. For instance, tomjones@yahoo.com. To type the “@” symbol, hold down the Shift Key on your Keyboard and hit the “2” Key near the top of your keyboard (NOT the F2 key).
- Every email address ends in a “.com” or a “.net”, or something similar. Make sure to include this part of the email address, or it will not be complete.
Hit the Tab Key on the left side of the Keyboard 2 times. Now you should see the blinking, black vertical line, or cursor in the white, rectangular box to the right of where you see the word “Subject.”
Type the subject of your email. You can also think of this as the title of your email. It should be rather short and to the point. Some sample might include, Hi, How are you, Saturday’s tennis match, etc. You CAN use spaces and whatever capital letters you wish. Remember this is only the title of the email. You’ll write the actual body of it in a minute.
Hit the Tab Key 1 more time. Now you should see the blinking black cursor in the big white box. It is time to type your email! You can use spaces here, capital letters, or whatever you wish. Writing an email is similar to writing a letter, although usually not as formal.
To send your email click on “Send” in the upper left corner of your email box.
Congratulations! You just sent an email! (Note: If you’re dying to make sure your email actually got sent, click on the “Sent” folder on the left side of your screen. If your email was successfully sent, a copy of it will be in there.)
